Last October
21, 2006, Prof. Art Zamora of the Operations
Management Cluster led a group from Ateneo-Regis
off-campus site at Sta. Rosa Laguna, to help build a
house in Gawad Kalinga’s Freedomville housing
project in that locality. The house will benefit two
families. This initiative is one of two houses
pledged specifically by the Operations Management
Cluster headed by Prof. Poly Ng. The funds that were
used came from revenues of the Supply Chain
Management Seminar spearheaded by the cluster.
Each of the various academic clusters of the AGSB
took various initiatives to meet AGSB’s commitment
to build 40 houses with Gawad Kalinga. This
commitment is part of its 40th year anniversary
celebration. The anniversary theme is: Our Country
Is Our Business. This theme challenges businesses
and individuals to actively participate in building
the nation.
So far, donations in various forms have been given
by AGSB to Gawad Kalinga. Total value donated far
exceeded the initial pledge of 40 houses.
AGSB's
40th Year Gawad Kalinga

As part of its 40th anniversary celebration, the
Ateneo Graduate School of Business continues its
effort to raise forty (40) houses for Gawad Kalinga.
This is a concrete manifestation of its commitment
to respond to the challenge it poses to the business
community as articulated in its theme: “Our Country
Is Our Business”. The pledge of 40 houses represent
the 40 years that AGSB has served the country by
providing post-graduate education to business
professionals, managers, owners and entrepreneurs.
Realizing this commitment is a task not only carried
out by the school’s administration but initiated by
faculty and students who believed in the congruence
of AGSB’s theme and GK’s vision for the country. So
far, nineteen (19) houses were donated to GK and the
task of making real the pledge continues. Here are
some of the recent initiatives taken.
The MBA class of 2006 donated Php60,000. The
initiative came from the students of the Regis
program who thought of coming up with an on-line
yearbook. Part of the subscription fees for said
on-line facility was allocated to GK. Students
enthusiasm on this project was evident that within
two (2) weeks said money was raised.
Lafarge Inc. Philippines, through Ms. Maryanne
Chiuco, a 2006 graduate and gold medalist of the
Ateneo-Regis MBA program, also donated 600 bags of
cement to GK Botolan, Zambales. The amount of bags
donated are enough to build 8 GK houses. We expect
more donations from students in the next few weeks.
Individual faculty gave an overwhelming response.
Prof. Manny Solomon of the Finance cluster will
donate a total of forty-four (44) hectares of land,
twenty-three (23) hectares in Mabini, Pangasinan and
twenty-one (21) hectares in San Jose, Occidental
Mindoro. This generous contribution is one of the
many initiatives undertaken by the AGSB faculty in
responding to challenge of nation building. In the
past, faculty members gave free training services to
the faculty of the University of Makati and the
allotted faculty fees given to the building of two
(2) GK houses. Other faculty members are giving
their share in this fund raising activity.
To date, if we add up the value of all donations
received, the amount will far exceed the peso value
requirements to build 40 houses.

Ateneo Graduate School of Business to Donate 40 GK houses on its
40th Anniversary
As part its 40th anniversary celebration, the Ateneo Graduate School of Business (AGSB) has committed to raise funds to build forty (40) Gawad Kalinga Homes, a program initiated by the Couples for Christ (CFC) movement. So far, AGSB has raised and donated funds for the building of ten (10) GK homes. Seven of these houses were donated to the South B-5 sector of CFC. The goal is to build an AGSB village.
Aside from donations from student groups and corporate sponsors, the AGSB held a unique fund raising activity participated in by its professors, administrators and staff. They provided a Business Faculty Development Program for twenty-five (25) faculty members of the University of Makati. And instead of them receiving compensation, they donated the amount due them towards the building of at least two (2) GK homes.
This project of building 40 GK homes on its 40th Anniversary is a direct response of living the challenge raised by AGSB in its 40th anniversary theme:
"Our Country is Our Business". On July 27, 2006 a Business Forum will likewise be sponsored by AGSB with its theme
"Take a Chance on Ourselves, Invest in the
Philippines". Secretary Gary Teves of the Department of Finance, Mr. Manny Pangilinan, Chairman of PLDT, and Mr. Tony Meloto of Gawad Kalinga are the invited speakers.
A CHED-FAPE study ranked the Ateneo Graduate School of Business as the No. 1 MBA school among 199 MBA programs reviewed. It was also the recipient of the Regis University Thomas Kennedy Award for Excellence in its MBA programs. Its MBA in Health programs on the other hand was the recipient of the People Power People Award given by the Benigno Aquino Foundation.
